Transferring your accounts to your new Ledger device is simple and secure. Here’s what you need to do:

1. Locate your 24-word Secret Recovery Phrase: Make sure you have the 24-word Secret Recovery Phrase from your Ledger Nano S™ . This is essential for restoring access to your accounts.

2. Set up your new Ledger device: Follow the on-screen instructions to get your new Ledger Nano X™, Ledger Nano S Plus™, Ledger Flex™ or Ledger Stax™ up and running.

3. Restore from Secret Recovery Phrase: During the setup, choose the option to restore from an existing Secret Recovery Phrase. Then, enter the 24 words you used with your Ledger Nano S.

4. Install apps: Open the Ledger Live™ app to open or install the necessary apps. Your balances and transaction history will sync automatically.

Upgrading to a new Ledger Stax or Ledger Flex is a great step towards enhanced security and convenience. But what should you do with your old Ledger Nano S to ensure your crypto remains secure?

After you upgrade, we recommend you reset to the factory setting. You can wipe the device to remove all data. This ensures that no one else can access your crypto assets. To do this, go to the device settings and choose the option to reset or wipe the device.

The upgrade process is designed to be very secure. Here’s why:

• Recovery Phrase: Safe storage of your 24-word Secret Recovery Phrase and knowledge of your PIN ensures that only you can access your accounts on the new device.

• Secure Setup: The setup process for Ledger devices includes robust security checks, such as the Ledger Genuine Check, which verifies the authenticity of your device to prevent unauthorized access.

• Ledger OS updates: Regular OS updates ensure that your device has access to the latest services and is protected against the latest threats.

We chose to focus on the Ledger Nano S for this upgrade promotion because it's one of our oldest devices still in use. We want to reward our loyal users who have been with us since the early days. While the Ledger Nano S is still reliable and secure, it does have growing limitations due to its older hardware. As we continue to enhance our services and security offerings the Ledger Nano S™ is unable to utilize them.

Released in 2016, the Ledger Nano S has been a trusted device for many years. However, it has limited memory, which restricts the number of apps you can install at once. It also can't support some of the newer features available on our modern devices, like Clear Signing and Ledger Sync.

In 2022, we announced that the Ledger Nano S™ would be retired due to these limitations. You can read more about this in our announcement here. By upgrading to a newer Ledger device, you can take full advantage of advanced features and enjoy a more seamless and secure experience.
